“I had a lot of first dates and not second dates.” –Ken Austin regarding his ego

Ken and Joann Austin made a donation in the amount of 1 million dollars to the Special Olympics Oregon Summer Games to have the games hosted in Newberg for 4 years.  This is the last year.  What Ken and Joann have wanted to see is the community support of the event.  What can you do? Come to the opening ceremony Sat. July 12th at 7pm in the Newberg High School Stadium.  It warms your heart more than you know.  Please take time to make this event fit in your schedule.

Last meeting at Deception Brewing in Dundee…

They recently opened (June 14th!) and are open Thursday 5 – 9pm, Friday 5pm – Midnight, Saturday 12pm – Midnight, and Sunday 12pm – 9pm.

We had the honor of Ken Austin (founder of A-dec…responsible for The Austin Entrepreneurship Program at OSU) speaking to us.  Instead of preparing a presentation, Mr. Austin requested that Francisco and I come up with questions for him and open it up to the group.

This format worked awesome.  He was very candid, humble, and inspiring.  As he talked about his background and early professional career, we could all relate to the roadblocks he faced.  What I found most striking about his story is that he found a way to make his ego and confidence work for him by essentially finding a niche and letting that ego and confidence guide him through the start up.  Mr. Austin didn’t sound particularly passionate about dental equipment, but about doing something his way, the right way, and the best way.  Thank you to those of you who attended and participated by asking questions.

Sign up for Brews and BBQ July 25/26 in Newberg.  Click the link to sign up for your shift.  Each shift earns you entrance (you cannot give these away), and $3 of tickets toward beverage of your choice.

Brian Doyle presented an opportunity to the Young Pros.  Waste Management has a committee of community members that is helping to determine and guide the Riverbend Landfill 450 Acre Transformation.  If you are interested, contact Brian Doyle directly at [email protected].

Young Pros Family Day!

Jessica Reber of Reber’s Riverside has offered to host a Young Pros Family Day August 24th Reber’s Riverside.  Before we annoy her – we need to know how many people are interested in attending.  Time like 3pm – 8pm.  Let us know!
